Matlock

The modern town of Matlock was formely a spa town and lies approximatley six miles from the Knockerdown.  It is famous for the Boxing Day Raft Race which commences from Matlock Bridge every year and Matlock Bath Illuminations where there is a spectacular firework display and a parade of illuminated boatson the River Derwent.

 

 

The Knockerdown makes an ideal base for visiting Matlock and its neighbouring attractions – Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site including Sir RichardbArkwrights Cromford Mill, canal and wharf and the red brick Masson Mill between Matlock Bath and Cromford.

The riverside walks, showcaves, large aquarium, museums, waxworks, model railway, cable cars, pleasure grounds and full range of shopping emporiums go together to make Matlock Bath a unique and special place to visit.
