Chatsworth House is the magnificent home of the Duke & Duchess of Devonshire and is generally regarded as the Palace of the Peak. It is open to visitors most of the year (closed just before Christmas and re-opens at Easter).
The wonderful landscaped park, with its large herd of deer and 5 miles of walks is open to the public all year and admission is free.
The house itself is magnificent, if a little overwhelming, while the gardens are a treat, and the surrounding park is a superb area of open space with fine scenery, woods and views of the house and surrounding area – an excellent place for relatively gentle walks.
It is also possible to visit the farmyard behind the house, where typical farm animals can be seen, with milking demonstrations and other insights into life on a farm for both the people and the animals. Next to the farmyard there is a small adventure playground.
After your fantastic day out call at The Knockerdown Inn and Restaurant for a great family meal in a superb location.
